Dry hands

Frozen snow from January's historical winter storm lingered for most of February. The snow was so plentiful and solid, the county was forced to temporarily lift side-walk clearing ordinances, calling efforts to shovel "futile and dangerous."

Lanes narrowed and closed. Piles of ice lowered visibility around corners. Traffic slowed. Pedestrians walked in the streets.

The cold dried my hands out something fierce, especially at the knuckles, which turned red and scaly enough that I feared they would crack and bleed. Double gloving helped a little, as did applying lotion.

By late February, the snow had almost entirely melted away when it snowed again. This time, however, the temperature was so warm that the fresh snow couldn't accumulate much, and in a matter of days, not weeks, I awoke to see my street devoid of the cold stuff.
